How to Prepare a Domain for Transfer to Another Registrar

If you decide for any reason that you would like to transfer a domain away from HostMySite and to another domain registrar, you will need to take a few steps to do so.

This article assumes that you are already familiar with how to log in to the customer control panel. If you do not know how to log in or have forgotten your password, please refer to this article first.

Before transfer, you will need to do the following:

Unlock the domain

Disable Whois Privacy

Obtain the authorization code

Once you have completed these steps, you will simply need to contact the new registrar and they will assist you in initiating the transfer. You should be asked for the authorization code at some point during the transfer process (either up front, or shortly after the transfer is initiated). By providing this code, you will have effectively approved the transfer to the new domain registrar. It can then take anywhere from 5-7 days to complete the back-end processing before the transfer completes.
