How to Unlock a Locked User in the Control Panel

Posted by on September 10 2015 02:40 PM

If one of your users has forgotten his or her control panel password and has entered an incorrect password too many times, the control panel will temporarily lock their user account from access. This lock expires after a few minutes, so they can wait and try again. Alternately, if you know the user is locked out and you have access to a control panel user with administrative permissions, you can unlock their user instantly from within the control panel. Once unlocked, the user should refer to this article, which walks through the steps to reset the user's password: How to Reset a Control Panel Password

  • Click on the Account tab, then select "Account Settings".

  • Select "More Tools".

  • Click "Locked Users" under the Account Data section.

  • All currently locked users will appear on this page. You can view the user name, the IP address from which their login attempts originated, the time the user was locked out, and when the lock will expire (usually after five minutes). To unlock the user, simply check the box next to their user name and click the Unlock button.
