How to Create Custom Name Servers for your Domain

Posted by on October 26 2015 02:32 PM

A custom name server allows you to run your own name server to respond to DNS requests for your domains. Custom name servers are useful for branding purposes, if you would like to hide the fact that your domain's DNS requests are handled by our public name servers (in this case, you would point the A records to the same IPs as our existing name servers: What are the HostMySite Name Servers).

  • Click Manage Name Servers

  • Click Manage Name Servers again

  • Scroll down and click the link labeled " If you want to create or modify a nameserver which is based on yourdomain.com click here."

  • Enter the desired hostname for the first name server, enter the IP address to associate with the server, then click Create Name Server. Repeat this process for all desired name servers. These newly created name servers will display on the top of the screen.

  • If you haven't already, you will also need to create the corresponding A records for the name servers and IPs that were listed on this screen. Once completed, you should be able to use these custom name servers on any of your domains.
