Joomla SMTP Configuration

Posted by on October 22 2015 12:53 PM

If you are using email for your website's forms, then you will want to reference the settings below for utilizing SMTP authentication via a mail server.
Authentication is required at HostMySite. You can use the mail server assigned to your account as long as you use an email address and password that you've setup on that server. Alternatively, you can use any valid email address and password combination that exists on an external mail server, as long as that server supports SMTP connections and you obtain the server or host name and port information for it. The below information will provide SMTP settings for a mail server with HostMySite:

  • In the Joomla dashboard, click Site > Global Configuration
  • Click the Server tab
  • Under Mail Settings, you will need to input the following information:
    • Mailer: SMTP
    • SMTP Authentication: Yes
    • SMTP Security: No SSL
    • SMTP Port: 50 OR 25
    • SMTP Username: Your full email address
    • SMTP Password: Your email password
    • SMTP Host: mail.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name)

To test SMTP, you can sign up a new test user within Joomla and attempt to send a message to the test user.
