How to Create a ColdFusion DSN in the Control Panel

Posted by on September 02 2015 12:39 PM

A ColdFusion data source name (DSN) is a one-word identifier that points to your database and contains all the information needed to connect, such as your host, user name, and password. When used on your site, the DSN tells ColdFusion which database to connect to and what parameters to use for the connection. ColdFusion data sources are similar, but not the same as Windows DSNs. To configure a Windows DSN, please see this article: How to Create a Windows DSN in the Control Panel

To configure an Access DSN on your Windows or ColdFusion plan, see one of these articles: How to Create a Windows Access DSN in the Control Panel OR How to Create a ColdFusion Access DSN in the Control Panel

This article assumes that you are already familiar with how to log in to the customer control panel. If you do not know how to log in or have forgotten your password, please refer to this article first.

  • On the control panel Home tab, click "Add New" under the ColdFusion section.

  • Enter the DSN name, DSN type (MySQL or MS SQL), database name, and your access credentials (these are required). Note: The final DSN name that will be created will start with your subscription ID plus an underscore (i.e. 1056998_test).

  • Click Finish to confirm creation of the DSN.
