How to Find or Change Your Database Credentials

Posted by on March 06 2014 03:27 PM

This guide works for both Microsoft SQL (MS SQL) server AND for MySQL. We highly suggest generating a strong password for your database user. In most cases, users do not need to memorize their database password, so there is no need to keep it simple. You should use a Strong Password Generator to generate your password, using all the options and the longest length possible. You will need to update the password in your code; otherwise, updating the password in the control panel will cause your site to go down.

This article assumes that you are already familiar with how to log in to the customer control panel. If you do not know how to log in or have forgotten your password, please refer to this article first.

  • On the control panel Home tab, click "Databases" under the Databases & Backups section.

  • Select the database you wish to use.

  • Your hostname will be displayed on this page. If listed, both "Internal Hostname" and "External Hostname" should be the same thing - you can use either to connect.

  • Click the Users tab, then click the user name you wish to modify, if you will be resetting the password.

  • Click the Edit button. Enter your new password, or use the Generate link to have the system create one for you. Click the Submit button.
