Configuring Your MX records for Use with Symantec Email Security

Posted by on May 30 2013 06:35 PM

This KB article defines the MX records needed for use with the Symantec Email Security Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus service.

Important Note: Do NOT update your MX records until you have ALL of your valid addresses and aliases for your domain registered within your ClientNet. Mail will not be delivered for addresses not contained within the Registration list.

Configure your MX records:
It is recommended that you wait 4 to 6 hours after your domain is provisioned within Symantec before updating your MX records on your domain. Please contact your DNS provider for help on how and where to update the MX records for your domain. If you're not sure who handles your domains' DNS information, please let us know and we'll get you pointed in the right direction. If you're using our DNS service available through your customer control panel instructions are below.

Lowest MX preference (default mail route)   – MX 10

Second MX preference (back-up mail route) – MX 20

Outbound (optional):

Important: Once provisioned, it is possible that some of your email will be processed by before your MX records are changed.  These will be emails sent to your domain(s) by other customers provisioned on the same infrastructure as you. Your ClientNet dashboard and reports may show that email has been received before the MX change.

This only works if your DNS is managed in the New Control Panel with the green tabs. If your DNS is managed in the Old Control Panel, use this article to get to it and update the MX records to the ones listed.
