Posted by on September 12 2012 03:52 PM

If your domain is registered with another company, or if you choose not to use HostMySite as your DNS provider, you will need to add the appropriate DNS records with your DNS host. This article will provide steps to obtain the relevant DNS records for a website hosted on our servers. You will need the IP address for the website on our server, which will be entered as an A record with your DNS host.

This article assumes that you are already familiar with how to log in to the customer control panel. If you do not know how to log in or have forgotten your password, please refer to this article first.

  • On the control panel Home tab, click "Manage Website" under the Websites section.

  • For Windows plans: Click the Web tab. The IP address will be listed under the Web Hosting section.

  • For Linux plans: Click the Web Hosting Settings link from the Summary tab. The IP address will be shown in the General tab, under Web Hosting.

Once you have the IP address, you will need to create DNS A records with your provider. Below are some common A records that are usually added. You would simply replace the X.X.X.X with your new IP address. Please contact your DNS provider with instructions on how to create or modify these records.

  • type=A mydomain.com X.X.X.X
  • type=A www.mydomain.com X.X.X.X
  • type=A ftp.mydomain.com X.X.X.X
